About This Archive

The first annual Nisei Veterans Committee Veterans Day event, held at the NVC Memorial Hall. This year's theme was "what does it mean to be a veteran" and featured keynote speaker Judge Vincent H. Okamoto.

Judge Okamoto's speech covered several items related not only to Nisei Veterans, but to all veterans. He also told stories about one of his soldiers and his last wish, and the importance of understanding the freedoms we have today came at a great cost.

The event was used as an opportunity to remember and acknowledge past veterans and those killed in action. Two Medal of Honor recipients, PFC William Kenzo Nakamura and Technician 5th Grade James Okubo were highlighted.

The event closed with an acknowledgement of veterans and service members who have passed or were killed in action (KIA), and the 64 KIAs memorialized on the halls of the halls of the NVC were shown during the playing of Taps. The 64 KIAs represented veterans of all wars.
